Yes, it is important to listen to and to stand with one’s spouse. If I didn’t support my closest friend in life, I would not really be fit to lead a life in communion with other believers, I would say.
The spiritual situation in Germany seems to be pretty much like the one in the UK, respectively Europe. In the US, it seems, you can win elections with the “right” faith, but in Europe, you’d better stay quiet about religion to win elections.
It is perhaps a solution not to invite people “to church” but to show them what a blessing a life with Jesus and other believers is. At least that’s how I understand what I have learned from Lifestream. Still, it will be difficult, no doubt.
In our group there is a young lady. She would not “go to church”, but she enjoys our company and conversations, literally about “God and the world” as we Germans say. It’s a joy to see that happen.
